Education

I have a bachelor of arts degree in French and a business minor from the University of Denver. I also have a teaching certificate in secondary French language and culture from the same university. Since moving to Texas, I have acquired my Texas Teaching Certification for Secondary French, which included passing the Texas Oral Proficiency Test in French.

Experience

Currently, I teach students French and ESL at a local language school and privately, as an in-home tutor. I have taught French at public and private schools for over fifteen years. Part of that time, I also taught English literature and writing using classic books, such as the Iliad, Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Canterbury Tales and Macbeth. We read the entire text of these works, not just excerpts, which allowed for intensive study of these masterpieces. I was able to guide the students through the challenging vocabulary and syntax, so that they not only comprehended what was happening, but were eager for more! I love helping people not only improve their language skills, but actually use the language! I incorporate a variety of the latest proven methods into my teaching, such as Total Physical Response, spaced recall, and interactive stories. My lessons are customized according to the needs and individual learning styles of my students.

Hobbies

Mostly, I enjoy getting outdoors into the wilderness to go hiking, camping or hunting. When I am at home, I like to work on my vegetable and herb garden, read literature, and study languages. I am currently studying German and Old English, which has greatly improved my understanding of the English language!
